Email marketing can be a tough job to do especially for a start-up business. This is why most professionals get intimidated to try this out as a marketing strategy that will drive their business to succeed online. Getting People to Opt in Email Subscription – It can be very tricky to get people to subscribe to your marketing collateral. You need to have a good hook to motivate them to opt-in. The whole point of this list is to persuade them to grant you permission to send them your collateral without being flagged as SPAM or without your mail automatically being sent to their junk mailbox. So how exactly do you will them to say okay? 

The secret is to create compelling ads that they would click and to give them something valuable in return. You can create an online contest which would require them to register or a limited offer which they can only access if they subscribe in your opt-in list. 

Getting a Huge List – So you already have an opt-in list, but this does not stop there. You need to find a way to keep making it bigger and updated. The size of your list can reflect the amount of sales leads you get. You need to get people constantly interested with what you have to offer and even get them to recommend others to join your list. 

To do this, you need to create a viral marketing campaign. Create something that will run for a certain period of time and get people hooked on wanting more. 

Low Open Rate – People have now subscribed to your list. But do they actually open what you have sent them?  To make sure people actually open and read what you produce, have fresh engaging content. Refrain from regurgitating the same thing over and over again. Keep in mind that people are smart online readers. They can easily tell if they want to read your mail or not just by the subject. 

 Low Click Rate – Getting your mail opened up is one thing. But getting those click rates coming in is another challenge you would have to overcome. Do this by using images and calls to actions that actually speak to your target market. Keep your copy short yet concise enough to be understood. 

Low Conversion Rate – You have your list, your links get clicked. But do they generate profits? This is the end result that you want to generate in your marketing strategy and to be able to ensure that this happens, always track the analytics of your campaign. Email Marketing is an inexpensive but highly profitable internet marketing business. Doesn’t it sound too good to be true? The catch is you have to do it right and I am going to share with you some key elements in getting it right. 

(1) Find your targeted market and understand them. You have to find out what your potential buyers’ needs and offer them relevant information or solution they are looking for. For example, if your expertise is in stock investing, you properly understand majority of the investors are looking for tips on what stocks to invest in. They will try to search for stocks analysis website, expert forum, etc., to look for information. 

(2) Create a short report by offering solution or useful information.  This report will be given free to those who opt in your email list. From example, you can offer a short report on “How to Pick a Good Stock?”, “How to Read a Stock Chart?”, “Steps in Choosing a Value Stock”, etc. 

(3) Once you have your subscribers, you can start sending them valuable information in the first few emails. Get your subscribers hooked in reading your email and create an anticipation waiting for your email to arrive. Do not ask them to buy before gaining any trust from them; otherwise very soon your email will be treated as SPAM mail. 

(4) After you have gained trust from your subscribers, you can start promoting your products or doing affiliate marketing by promoting other people products, by sending emails with catchy subject line. You can write a brief review on the product you are promoting and direct them to find out more by providing a website URL. 

(5) After you have sent the subscribers to your website, you need to get your customers to act by asking them to buy. This is a very important step but most people feel shy about asking their customers to buy. Bear in mind that your ultimate objective is to get people to buy so that you can make money. Otherwise you have wasted all the efforts by finding your targeted market, building an email list, writing emails, directing them to your website without selling any products. 

Email marketing is all about building the relationship with your readers, by providing value add information or solution to your subscribers.
